Be Ready!

II Timothy 4:1b-2-I give you this charge: 2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. (NIV)

Hello Everyone,
Its been such a long time since I've blogged but know that I've been enjoying life and doing the work of the ministry! There is nothing like living a life of servanthood! The more we serve, the more we look like Christ!

So, yesterday I went to the nursing home. Once a month a ministry that I am apart of goes to the nursing home to share w/ the Senior citizens in a Bible Study. I must admit, yesterday was one of those days. When I say one of those days, it meant I was tired and just wanted to go home. I really did not feel like serving that day. So as my mother and I arrived at the Nursing home, we found out that the woman who usually leads the Bible studies was not there! Yes! My way out?! I can go home! lol..Well that's what my flesh said. But how many of you know we cannot be moved by how we feel!?

Being the most Sr. Member of this ministry who was present at this time;it was my responsibility to begin the Bible Study service as if our pastor was right there! I had no specific sermon or teaching prepared. All I had was the Word that was inside of me and my personal Bible study notes that I keep with me. So I began praise and worship with the Senior Citizens, prayed, and then taught what I know was one of the most powerful lessons I've ever taught on Faith.

For those of you who have sang unto the Lord, or Ministered through teaching or other avenues you may have experienced what I am about to share...
There is nothing more powerful than when you decrease and Holy Spirit increases in you. It is a powerful feeling to know and feel that it is no longer "Jennifer" teaching this lesson alone, but that she is flowing in the power of the Holy Spirit. This feeling was so powerful I was moved to tears because nothing I came up with was in and of myself.

So, what if I had never studied the Word of God? What if I never spent time in His presence? What would Holy Spirit have to work with? The reason I was able to be effective was because I had spent time BEFOREhand studying the Word, and in prayer. That's how we remain prepared as the scripture says above. That's how we remain ready in season and out of season! You NEVER know when you have to minister to someone! Now this may not be in a formal setting or on a pulpit. But you may have to minister and share Christ to a loved one! How can we do that if we do not remain ready!!? Pastor Tracie Millard instilled this in me during my time at Spirit of Faith Bible Institute during our sermon preparation class. She would call on the students randomly and give us a topic. Those topics could be, "Witnessing, Faith, etc." Then we would have to share on the topic she gave us until she stopped us. For someone who does not spend time in the Word of God this task was like pulling teeth; meaning it was painfully difficult. This principal of "being ready" has remained with me. Being ready means that God's word should come out of you with ease because of your time spent with Him and in study!

So I encourage you today and Give you this charge to always be ready! In season and out of season, be prepared to give an answer and share the unadulterated word of our Living God! This world needs it!
